Technology can be leveraged into social enterprises in many ways. The book hits on four groups of technologies that can help advance enterprises to change lives. The group I am going to hit on is basic building blocks. This includes simple things such as bricks, tiles, stoves and waterpumps. By focusing on technology in these areas you can develop alternative and more affordable ways to produce them. This is essential when communities dont have money to pay high prices for these goods.

Chapter 5 discusses several ways that technology is used to make social enterprises successful. It brings up the fact that when creating a social enterprise, there must be much planning involved. Without the advantage of technology it would make it very hard for some enterprises to properly prepare. Also, it discusses the fact that change is necessary when you have a social enterprise. You must be able to know when to change and how to adapt to change. Technology makes it easy to keep up to-date with the newest, greatest things that everyone is using. There are many other ways, but all in all, entrepreneurs must be able to adapt to innovation and use technology in doing that.

Technology is something that can be a great benefit for social enterprises, but the book also mentions that we should not rely on technology to fix all the problems of the world. The chapter talked about how Ghandi accomplished great things without the use of advanced technology. The chapter gave four groupings of how technology can be used in social enterprises. Technology can be leveraged through social enterprises by using simple brick, tile, and water pumps to advanced technologies like laptops, vehicles, and planes. With these new technologies social enterprises have access to reaching the entire world and are not limited by what used to hold businesses back from reaching far off countries. People who never have been able to receive any aid are now having their lives changed as organizations are implementing new technologies in their communities. As technology grows, so does the opportunity to help others.
